Fabulous Flowery Fabric

I got a fresh delivery of vintage fabric from America. Oooh I love it when the package drops through the letter box as I never really know what treasures are inside. I get most of my fabric from America through ebay and I buy bundles of off-cuts so i don't really know what all the pieces will look like until they arrive. There are usually a few duff ones with funny patterns or colours (I'm not sure many people would want a picture made of brown and orange flower print or lime green check, hmmmm) But there are usually a few gems buried inside the folds of cotton.

I discovered a gorgeous piece of 1940's or 50's fabric as i was about to start a new commission for a little girls name. It was just big enough to fit so it was perfect. It was my first commission through this blog (how exciting!!!) so i was keen to find just the right unique piece. I hope the little girl likes it.

I've also been experimenting with darker card backgrounds which work well with lighter fabric or with fabric with a white background colour. Here is a 'Bronte' I made a few weeks ago.

Elephants

Sorry I've been neglecting you but I came down with the most hideous virus known to man (or woman) It was like the flu but 1000 times worse, urghhhh! 7 whole days I took to my bed and at any other time it would have been bliss but with a 2 year old to look after everything suddenly gets very complicated. Luckily I had fantastic people around me who took care of everything. I'm still not 100% and I seem to have developed the most annoying barking cough. In fact i sound like a sea lion, how very unattractive.

Anyway I'm back! and as soon as I was out of bed I got stuck into my latest commissions. After my last creature based pieces 'Beetle' and 'Snail', i got an order in for something a lot larger. A pair of elephants, how cool! It's another first for me. It was for a friend to mark their boyfriends Indian heritage. What a nice idea. I hope you like them...

Babington House Birthday

I am one lucky lady. Husband treated me to a birthday weekend at Soho Houses' country retreat. 2 glorious child-free days spent eating, drinking and being massaged (Not all at the same time might I add) Babington House gets everything so right. From the tea and biscuits waiting in our room on arrival to the whole roast chicken that was wheeled over by room service.  The chicken came in a little oven so it was kept piping hot on it's journey over in the snow. See, even the food here gets treated to luxury...

Speedy Snail

I got a quick commission in the other day and I managed to turn it around in super speedy time. It's ironic that the subject matter was a snail. Oh how I love snails, with their slowed down lifestyles, sliding through life with their homes on their backs. I also love their funny little antennas...

New Commissions

Things have been a little hectic in my mews house of late. We had Mabel's 2nd birthday party on Sunday (pics to follow I promise) the party was nearly flooded by a blocked sink but hubby managed to save the day moments before the guests arrived. My computer also decided to have a melt down, hence why i've not update this for a while, sorry. Also my door bell has stopped working! (well these things like to come in threes don't they?)

I've also been busy making a couple of baby name pictures and also a really interesting couple of new commissions. A friend asked me to make a giant Beetle. Yes that's right a beetle as in bug. It's for her friend who's nick name is Beetle (I can't tell you why they call her that I'm afraid but it is very funny) Beetle is also a very successful actress so I'm very excited that one of my pics might end up on her wall, oooh! Really enjoyed the 'Beetle' commission and I've had an idea to make a little collection of bugs and butterflies out of different fabric all mounted in little frames so they look like those pinned insect specimens. Let me know if anyone would be interested in buying some! ...

I made a few more baby names, a 'Bronte' and a 'Reily' (yup, the spelling is weird...yup I made one that said 'Riley' aaahhh but i re made it and it's all cool now, phew! first time I've spelt a name wrong. Nearly as bad as when I made a 'Polly' for a 'Poppy' oops)Luckily my last commission went a lot smoother. I made a sweet 'Mr & Mrs' for a friend out of vintage ditsy print fabric...
